Okay, right off the bat... there is "some violence" sort of. Same thing with "some sexual content." Really not there but enough suggestion that I can't say none.

That being said, if there is anything negative (and I did say "if") it would be that it's a little difficult, at times, jumping back and forth between character narratives. Since it is written in 1st person and there are two main characters, the author writes alternating chapters from the viewpoint of each character. It's almost like there are two story lines, as well. In the end, that is a very small "if" and certainly not enough to knock it down from 5 stars.

Another thought - if you've been reading this series, it is pretty interesting how far this is away from the way it was in the beginning. In fact, I could say that the only thing the same is the names. Just the names? Yep, because they main characters have developed so much, they hardly resemble the original characters. And if you haven't read this from the beginning, go back to book 1 and get started. Not only is it interesting, it is amazing, and it is more than a little addictive.

So now we wait (not patiently at all) for the next in the series. This was not at all what I expected but I am NOT complaining.

God Hammer (Audible Audio Edition) John Conroe James Patrick Cronin Audible Studios Books Reviews

God Hammer
By John Conroe
Narrated by James Patrick Cronin
God Hammer is the name they call Chris, the main character, because he is so bad ass! He is part angel and ?, or all angel? He has power to spare, he brought an asteroid down on a building once so everyone is a bit terrified of him. This is Declans first full time job with Chris and vamp wife. He is making a quantum computer...where it goes from there...you just have to find out here!
Love the action, fantasy, the imagination, and craziness that ensues!
The narration is spot on! Perfection!
Man, the only thing bad I could put down here about this book is that it could've been another 490 pages long! lol Good Lord this series kicks butt! I had literally just got done reading College Arcane for the third time and had decided to look up the series here on so see how far along Conroe was on God Hammer. Bam! It was out and awaiting my eager eyes! I was so excited about this new book that I downloaded it to my phone and started reading it right then and there. I didn't put the book down till 4 in the morning and even then I had to force myself!

Was it good? Oh man, was it ever!! And in my opinion Declan stole the show. Yeah Chris was still there still kicking butt, but Declan pulled out all the stops and didn't hold back at all. His character and his Craft were so friggen fun to read about that you never wanted the book to end. But end it did, and I have to say that Conroe left it a complete blank as to where this series goes in his next edition. I would love to have another College Arcane (year 2), but I'm not sure if we'll even see anymore of that school. The story is just moving so fast now I think some things just have to be left behind.
Like all the other reviewers I get so excited by the release of the next book in this series that I blow thru it in a day and then am left in the depths of depression wondering when the next book will be out. <sigh>
I agree that the editing was sloppy, which was a big surprise, as all the other books were grammatically accurate. This book was rushed, it seems, and not as much care taken to the presentation.
And as far as the computer technology in this book, this senior citizen was left in the dust. I understood practically
none of the reasoning behind the Quantum computer. I did not understand nor follow Chet and Declan's conversations about this issue.
Being a practicing witch myself, I totally get the Book of Sorrows becoming part of Declan's psyche and kudos to Declan for handling it as well as he is. But the ending of this book..........AI makes me very nervous and I don't think we should mess with it AT ALL. A very engaging, intelligent and grounded young man (He is an earth witch, after all) being turned into what??
Congratulations to Chris and Tanya. For what, you ask? Ha - read the book!!
And finally - as ever, 'Sos is the absolute coolest being there is! I love that big, furry Spirit Wolf/Bear.
First I will say that I love all of John Conroe's books so far. However, this one was one of the weaker ones of the series (and yes I still think it deserves 4 stars).
I did not really care for switching narratives between Declan and Chris every chapter. While I understood the necessity (or desire anyway) for the switching narratives, it just didn't work for me. I love both Declan and Chris but every time they switched I wanted to go back to the other.
There were too many plot points in the story AI, robots, the Church and Declan's family and those are just the bad guys. Then you had more relationship issues than normal on top of that. Personally I think this book could have been split into two different books and still been very good. The Church could have been expanded upon to make a very good enemy.
One of the things I really did like, was that Declan and Lydia started picking on each other like Chris and Lydia do. I really enjoy the verbal sparring. I also enjoyed the relationship issues in the book. I also really liked Declan's family though I think they were under utilized. Hopefully they will be back or working behind the scenes to do some damage in an effort to get their hands on Declan.
Layers of thematic motifs, wildly inventive story line, all the favorite tropes and none of the annoying ones, and non-stop action what's not to love? The horrendous rendering, that's what's not to love. It's as though nobody ever proof read the results of epic fail in the optical scanning results -- moreso for this book than for any of the others all of which were also problematic. Still, this series is worth every hassle, especially when read mostly by listening to Audible books.
