The book is too short for the quick romance, or the romance is too quick. There were a few editing issues. I really thought I'd like this one, but I didn't care for the sex and think this book would have made a better sweet romance due to the length and quick romance. There is also a lot of telling. Could be written with more of an active voice. It has the potential to be a good story if it were longer, leave out the sex, make it a sweet romance, and fix the few editing issues. Also use active, not passive voice and show don't tell.Tags : The Treehouse Courtship - Kindle edition by Rita Trent. The Treehouse Courtship edition by Rita Trent Romance eBooks Reviews
"I received a copy of this book for an honest review."
Emily lived close to Gettysburg during the war. When a Confederate solider shows up wounded and asks for temporary food and shelter Emily must decide to sneak and help him or turn him away. She ultimately decides to hide him in her childhood tree house where they fall in love. The solider carries secrets he must keep from Emily. Is all fair in love and war?
I liked the foundation of this story. The main storyline itself was believable. It also had a very romantic basis being that the couple had so much time alone to get to know each other while in the tree house. I was looking for this to be a time for them to know each other more. The time they had alone could have provided more details on their past, families and emotions.
The relationships of the other supporting characters were not explained before those characters were introduced in the story leaving me curious about who they really were and if they were needed. Introducing the supporting characters earlier in the story would have created the need for them. Some things seemed almost left unexplained or up to interpretation. In some cases it seemed to jump from one thing to the other with no bridge.
Even as a novella or short story it seemed to be lacking detail and conclusion. And the vocabulary seemed elementary.I wish I had received more out of the characters.
fast moving easy to read
I loved this book, it kept my interest though the whole book. I could read it again.
This was a little different and I liked it very much. The treehouse was a great idea.
I received this book for free inexchange for an honest review. Imagine my surprise when I went to download it and I had already purchased the book. I found the book to be a great read although a little short. I would have loved to have followed the romance longer. Rita might want to write the rest of their story.
I wanted to like this book and there are some elements that could make it a good read if some trouble was taken with the romance side of things. As it stands, there is far too much unbelievable romance and sex and it detracts from the story. I believe the story would be better without it - or make the book longer and use believable romance to complement the other aspects of the plot - which is good.
Emily is shocked when a wounded Confederate soldier approaches her at her home and begs her to help him. He has been shot in the leg with an infection setting in, he is starving, and what's more he admits to having killed a fellow soldier and is now on the run. Emily knows that harboring any deserter, especially a Confederate, could mean prison or even death for her an her family if she is caught. But she can't help but feel compassion for the man, so she hides him in her childhood treehouse. She helps heal his wound and provides him with food and water.
Before we know it, Emily and Charles are in love. Emily doesn't think they can have a future together, seeing as Charles is a Confederate. But what Emily does not know is that Charles is a Union spy, working for Lincoln. Will Charles tell her the truth? And will he be able to escape from the soldiers hunting him down?
This book was a great idea, but way, way too short. The romance between Emily and Charles wasn't developed at all. One day, they were in love for no apparent reason. This book could have been so much better if it was simply expanded upon.
Definitely not worth $2.99.
